Having just experienced a dismasting, I have the opportunity to change the boat's rigging. I did have a mast-furled main. I am considering replacing it with a conventional main with a stack pack. Do any of you, particularly B423 owners, have experience (good and bad) with stack pack rigging?

I have a stack pack on my 375 and like it a lot, especially the greatly improved sail shape relative to an in-mast main. I assume switching over you would have to rig reefing gear, which may complicate things. On a 423 you might have problems reaching the top of the stacked sail to attach the halyard. Also with a new sail it will take a little time to 'train' it to flake neatly on the boom.

No problem. Spec' a low-friction mast track system to ease the up and down of a classic mainsail. I use a Tides Marine Strong Track. Recently sailed a Jeanneau with basic in-mast sail slugs - way too much friction and binding. With a low friction mainsail mast connection and full battens you hoist the sail 90% by hand, and drop the sail into the bag in a quick motion.
