B41 from Myrtle Beach, SC to Annapolis, MD

Hello all,

I am taking delivery of a new Oceanis 41 from Beneteau SC factory late september and sailing her to her home port in Annapolis, MD. I have never been on the ICW before. How many days should I reasonably plan the trip to take (i.e, not sailing 24/7, more like 12/14 hrs/day). There will be two of us taking turns and I assume it will be mostly motoring until at least we get to the mouth of the Chesapeake.

You can do 60 - 70 miles (statute miles is how the ICW is measured ) a day if you do long days (10 hour days). If I remember right Charleston is at Mile 470 so it's seven or eight days to Hospital Anchorage (Mile 0) in Norfolk. Another day and a half and you'll be home if you sail straight through.

With a B41 why not go coastal to Norfolk if there is no hurricane behind you?

How fast does your boat motor? Ho many nm do you have to go? Pretty simple speed, distance, time equation. Sorry to be so blunt, but this is pretty basic stuff. Have you purchased an ICW guide yet?

The American Great Loop and many other websites are devoted to sharing information about the ICW. One of our contributors did it last year and wrote an almost day by day log for us, right on this site. Roger Long. Great reading fi you haven't already.
