Group : Late last summer, I pulled the dingy out of the water & found a ton of crud on it. As much as I enjoyed providing a performance for the rest of the marina to watch, I was wondering if any other 361 owners have had success with davits & could recommend a particular brand for the boat. My thanks in advance to those who respond. Regards, Paul Ouellette, S/V Winpipe http://www.cmawindsor.com/winpipe/

Davits

Dear Paul, My wife and I installed (ourselves) a set of davits on our 411 this past spring. We purchased the package from KATO Marine in Annapolis MD. They sell a terrific product!! Their number is 410-269-1218. I dealt with Terry, one of the owners. I had met her several times over the past couple of years at several boat shows here on the east coast. Nice lady and very knowledgeable. Our enjoyment level with regrads to the use of our dingy has been notably upgraded since we went with the davit system. It is so much more organized having the davits verses dragging the darned thing behind the boat everywerhe. Good luck! I highly recomend their product. Jack

davits

Paul; My OC400 had a heavy-duty arch/davit structure on the stern that also held up the aft end of the bimini. I didn't think I'd like it, but after a while I came to love it. Hoisting the dink up, with engine still on the transom, is much better than removing the outboard then hauling the dink onto the foredeck. (I don't cross oceans, yet, anyway) You can mount all kinds of gear on the arch, too. I mounted a boarding light to shine down, great for dark nights, and moved the stern light to the top center of the arch so the dink wouldn't obscure it. Higher and easier for ships to see. If you like I can send a photo.

Hey Paul, We met at the Annap Show!

Paul, We met at the Annapolis boat show in October. You gave me your card. We were sitting inside the Beneteau 50 with the big screen TV. Anyway we have a 411 with Davits from KATO in Annapolis. Great product.I highly recomend it. Nothing like hoisting the boat clean out of the water with the engine and fuel tank aboard. Nothing to break down just hook it up and hoist. I have your e-mail address, I will send photos of my boat to you. Happy NEw Year! John

B361 Davits

This is a very interesting subject. I dislike drilling more holes and adding more weight and cost. I like what I see Jose does. Could you please explain the process Jose.

I will try John

John, the procedure is quite simple but not so easy to describe in words. I will try my best. We tie a line to the port bow ring of our Zodiac dink. After removing the engine, with the dink perpendicular to the boat, we pass the line by Ipanema’s (Our 361) starboard stern clit, and then back to the dink under the dink’s starboard stern cylinder tip, around it, and back up to the cockpit. With the line in this position, we lift by hand the dink’s port cylinder to the swimming platform so that it rests on the swimming ladder’s support structure. Standing on the cockpit we then pull the line coming from the dink’s starboard cylinder and lift the dink up to a vertical position. Once the dink is adjusted to its final position, the middle of the line is tied to the starboard bow ring of the dink, to secure the bow. We then “cleat” the bitter end of the line to a fishing pole holding tube that I installed (see picture) and finally pass it through the engine support ring on the dink’s stern and back to holding tube to secure the dink’s stern. I hope the description was not too confusing. Jose

B361 Dingy Davits

Jose. Thank you for going to all the trouble to show how you do it. Your response was very explicit. I will try it on my cruise this year. It is a good way, more important,it does not require the installation of davits with associated costs. The photos were also of help. Thanks again. John.
