I recently purchased my B331 and the refrigeration is not quite up to snuff. I had my technician check out the adler barbour factory unit including the electrical and everything checks out good...pressures, electrical, etc. but at 75 degrees ambient temp at the compressor the best temp in the box is 52 degrees, the meat compartment is at 42 degrees. The unit reaches it's optimal temperatures at 4 on the thermostat any setting above that causes the compressor to run continually without cycling with no gain in cooling. My only solution at this point appears to be a larger evaporator. Any ideas???

Check the ventilation

Just in case you've not done so, make sure your getting enough air to the unit. I had similiar problems with the AC unit on my 361(same equipment different use) including shut down's due to abnormal air temps. Turned out I had cleaned the air filter in front of the unit but overlooked a screen installed right behind the ventilation louvers. Once I cleaned that screen everything went back to normal. Good luck.

thanks, you are correct i cleaned the vents but did not realize there was possbibly another filter in front of the fan. I assume the filter you speak of lies under the shroud that encases the fan?

Improve Insulation Around fridge

I completely re-insulated the cavity around the freezer/fridge box. Drilled some holes and sprayed in foam insulation. What a huge difference!! My fridge now is plenty cold enough at setting #2, on #3 it will freeze at the bottom if I am not careful. I also redid the lid seal. The beer is quite a good temp. Pete

Fan Filter

I'm not sure if there is a second filter on your unit or not but I'd use a flash light and do a thorough check for a filter or other factors that could block the air flow to the unit. If nothing else mechanical has changed and everything checks out with the coolant then there's a good chance it's something simple. What else changed prior to this happening? Did you change anything or install anything that could hinder the unit? Was it a gradual decline in performance or sudden? Some times thinking about how the change came about gives you a clue as to what to look for. There's another suggestion to insulate, which is a good one, but if it worked before then it should work now and extra insulation will only mask the problem. Get it fixed then add insulation. Good luck.

Hey Mike, Thanks, I did shine a light through it and I have good air flow and the ambient temp is only 75 degrees around the compressor. I talked to the previous owner and he said the refrigeration was never very good and he just lived with it. I got the boat in November and it hasn't cooled well since i have had the boat either. My technician also mentioned insulation and that the evaporator may be too small to cool the box with the existing insulation. Is this problem unique to my 2001 model B331?

insulation

Hey Tschum, Thanks for the info. If you don't mind telling me, where did you drill your holes -what size- and how could you tell how much insulation was spraying and what space it was filling?

Armed with that information I'd agree with the suggestion to insulate it. It can only help make things better. Good luck.
