Over the winter I bought a CQR style anchor for my Beneteau 331.

The primary purpose being it would self-stow on the bow anchor roller.

Previously I used a Danforth Hi-Tensile which I muscle up and around the bow pulpit from the anchor locker and either I'm getting older or the anchor is getting heavier each season.

I Tried it out yesterday when I went down to remove the shrinkwrap. I was surprised at how close to the hull it is as it overlaps which is not good.

I'd appreciate any help/tips on proper stowing and use. I will also have to be concerned about the mooring lines as I am on a mooring all season.

Please ignore the shrinkwrap in the photos I have attached. You can see the over-lap with the hull.

Thanks....

i don't know if there is a way to do it, but it looks like an extended bow roller bracket might be needed. yours looks a lot shorter than the one on my 323. I have a Lewmar plow type on my boat and it sits clear of the bow.

Stainless protector plate

My B361 came from Beneteau with a 'Delta' plow style anchor. It also "overlaps" the bow when stored, so Beneteau mounted a heavy S.S. plate that wraps around the bow on the same side as the bow roller. looks nice and protects the fiberglass from an errant anchor tip.

Thanks for the response. I think i need to either extend the roller but that maybe be tough and still look nice. Which of course no one would ever notice and I also like the stainless protector. I'll call Beneteau and see what they say......

When shopping for my B331 last year this was a pretty common problem. Here is a pick of the extension available from Beneteau the original owner had installed.

There are various extenders out there for this exact reason, I just have not located the one yet that "fits" the B331. Lewmar and Maxwell offer them. I have consider the stainless on the bow but I would rather the extender. I will be doing the measurements in a the next few weeks. I agree the anchor seems to be getting heavier every year and i am installing a windlass this year, cheaper than physio for a slipped disc.

Let me know what you come up with.

Interesting photo of a possible extension. I called Beneteau and ordered the protection plate. About $70 but looks real beefy. Made for 35 footer but i'll see if fits. Not surif i can bend it if its a litle off it is thick.

I like the thought of added protection on the bow.

Tthanks to all.....

Bought the stainless bow plate from Beneteau. Looks good but did not put on yet. Just attaches on one side. I probably won't leave the abchor stowed there due to the mooring line but will be nice not to ding my fiberglass.

I hate when work interferes with sailing!

Beneteau will also sell you a completly new stemhead fitting at 50% discount. I have a Bruce with about 2 inch extention bars, and a pice of plastic guard on the hull. it works fine.
