Rick,

I'm surprised that you didn't get someone on the phone. When I had trouble with my Vulcan 7, they answered the phone and diagnosed my problem within 5 minutes. I can't remember how wide my arrival radius is. I think they are at 0.2 NM inshore.

My problem? Attempting to use a 64Gig SD card in a device that only reads up to 32Gig. Where is that disclaimer in the manual?

OK, never got a response to my e-mail, so today I called them. And...the answer is...no route update without an autopilot tied in. The route feature is evidently designed for that application only. That's a slight disappointment since I was hoping the bearing to the next waypoint would display automatically. So, you have to manually select each waypoint for that. Oh well.

Wow. Glad you got an answer but I'm pretty surprised they don't just implement it so that it can walk through the route without the autopilot.

My experience as well. Isn't there a time-honored practice in the technology business of stealing other people's tech innovations? Navico could pick up a $300 Garmin handheld mapping GPS and copy their routing tools.

That's the funny thing about it though - Navico already has the software to do it (it's trivial to program anyway), but for some reason they only turn it on when connected to an AP. Either that or the code to do it is only in the AP itself, but even then it should be trivial to move the functionality into the plotter.

I had a conversation with a German auto exec one time about the lack of suitable cup holders in German cars, his response was something like, "you should not be drinking while driving", which sounds completely reasonable...except I was looking for a place to stow my coffee cup. I"m thinking that the Norwegians don't believe I need to be routing my waypoints if I don't have an AP.
