B&G transducer problem

I have replaced the depth transducer for our B&G Network Quad a couple of times in the last 4 or 5 years, and again this last summer had the same problem - the water temperature display starts registering incorrectly. While temperature isn't the most important thing, it is nice to reference occasionally and the transducers are not cheap - the fact they only function correctly for two years is disappointing. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this or may have any suggestions as to what the problem may be? We are in Lake Michigan where we had an extremely cold winter last year, yet in the spring we were getting readings in the 70s for water temp. I tried recalibrating it a few times, but it always goes haywire again shortly thereafter.

Thanks,
Scott

Did you buy it from West marine? WM will definitely stand behind that and replace it. I'd also call B&G directly and ask them for a replacement. I bought the B&G Zeus t7 and triton t41 last year, the transducers bought from Blue Heron Marine( Google it). I think the guys ftom B&G referred them to me.. Apparently they make the transducers for the different manufacturers. I've had no problems with mine

Both purchased from reputable B&G service facilities

and both told me they were outside the warranty - can't remember now if the warranty was 90 days or 1 year.

I would suggest that you double check all of the electrical connection points between the transducer and the display for corrosion and security. Hopefully The only connection points are at the display and nothing in between. Also check continuity if you can, those small conductors can part somewhere along the line. Also look for bottom paint and marine growth blocking the sensor portion of the transducer.

It seems rather odd that you would have more than one fail. I am not sure whose transducers B&G uses, but a lot of them are Airmar. I must be fortunate, I have had my boat for 12 years and not encountered that problem. (knock on Wood)
