B&G Auto pilot device not found

Looking for some help with my B&G auto pilot. I tried to do a firmware update to my precision 9 compass the other day. It did not succeed just sat at 0% installing so after a couple of hours I gave up. The compass is fine just at the original fw revision. However, now the auto pilot no longer works. The MFD says no device found. It is like it just got disassociate. If I go to system->device list and look at the status of the NAC3 I see device status OK so presumably it is still working??? Any thoughts? I'm about to go on a 10 day trip and it would be nice to have it.

It probably got deselected as a source. Go to to the sources menu and see if it is unchecked. If so, select it again.

Our just run the automated select sources routine.

It is also possible that you might need to rerun the AP setup routine before the CP will see it.

I figured it out. I was going to call B&G but didn't have time until Friday and I'm leaving on a trip so I was hoping someone else here had run into this.

I also thought it was just missing source. I got fooled when I looked in device list and saw three entries for the NAC3. But when I went to sources it didn't show up as a source. Turns out there are actually 5 device entries for the NAC3 the other two having to do with auto pilot. For whatever reason the NAC3 got hung up when trying to update the precision 9 compass. I had originally assumed turning everything off and on again would resolve the issue but it didn't. Turns out, for my wiring, just turning the instruments off at the panel doesn't power cycle the NAC3. I tried turning off the DC main to everything and that fixed the problem.

If anyone else runs into this hopefully this will help.

That is a “good to know” experience. You now know that the NAC3 unit has a paralytic draw on your batteries unless the DC Main is turned off.

B&G has a Master/Slave option for devices controlled by the Chartplotter. Some where on the Chartplotter there is an option for turning off the NAC3 if it is a slave to the Chartplotter and if you have radar, it too is likely a slave to the Chartplotter and can be powered up automatically or turned off. Because the NAC3 has a large power draw, it should be on a separate circuit with either a fuse or circuit breaker.

Yes,.. That is what I meant.
Parasitic as in sucking the juice out of the battery when you are not looking.
