Was down at the marina today getting boat ready for launch date.
Started scrubbing old bottom paint to get off any dirt, dust, and slim residew off with some soap and water before repainting. Left for a few minutes to get some supplies and asked one of the new yard staff guys to finnish rinse off the the bottom so it would not dry.
I returned a few minutes later to find the new yard crew member scrubbing the boot strip with a sponge/scotch bright pad.
Ohh Noooooo
He didn't know that this was awalgrip not gelcote, and damaged the clear finish on the boot strip. Needless to say he should not have been using a scotchbrite pad on gelcote either. Anyway the boot stripe now has a few dull spots where he tried to clean some water line scum build up off. It's not really bad but I can notice it when I look at it on an angle.
Tried to take a picture, however it doesn't show up in the photo.
I am just being financial! It not that noticeable however I can see it. I had the entire hull awalgrip painted five seasons ago, and have kept looking as good as the day it was done. Using only awalgrip products. The boat looks perfect.
Now I have about twenty dull spots that are driving me crazy.
I have left a message with awalgrip tech support and waiting for response.
Anyone know of any ways to shine or restore the clear coat Finnish to my awlgrip boot stripe ????
I tried awlcare polymer protectant on a few spots, did nothing. I even tried using it with an orbital polishing wheel in a small inconspicuous spot with not luck.
I'm afraid to use a wax or compound on it because the mfg said that that will damage it.
I hope someone has some way to restore or fix this issue.
