AWG 1 vs. AWG 1/0

Just to warn some of you out there. I recently purchased a bunch of rather expensive terminal ends while moving my #2 house battery back to it's original location beneath the galley floor boards. I got them at WM and they were clearly marked 1/0. While trying to install them this morning I was having heck of a time and decided to call a halt to the project. I visited Cap'ns locker in Long Beach and while there just for hah's took a look at the same fittings that they had. Lo and behold they are actually made for 1/0 cable. I will be contacting the home office of WM and letting them know that there Vendor is in error. The packages were all marked 1/0 and unopened.:yikes:

I'm confused (not hard to confuse me, really). Are you saying that the connectors you purchased from WM marked 1/0 were too small for the 1/0 cable you have?

Not sure if this is the issue, but extra fine stranded cable is slightly larger than regular strand cable, and the connector (ring terminal?) should be sized accordingly. But looking at the title of this thread, are you referring the difference between #1 AWG and 1/O AWG? There is a difference, 1/O is one wire size larger.

I am confused? What was the issue?

Sorry for the confusion. The cable I am splicing is 1/0 cable or phonetically WON AUGHT....
The cable terminals I purchased from WM were in an unopened package clearly marked 1/0. They are not WON AUGHT connectors they are made for AWG 1 cable which is slightly smaller and these connectors WILL NOT FIT on ONE AUGHT cable. I took the time to travel to Long Beach and purchased the proper fittings at Captains Locker. By the way they were much cheaper there although they are not open on weekends which is a bummer.

So the clam shell/package says 1/0 but the terminal itself was stamped/embossed 1Ga? I think I am still confused?

Actually the terminals themselves were stamped 1/0 which means WM's vendor made the mistake.

For the rest of us -- it goes (from smaller to larger)

2, then 1, then 0 (which is 1/0) then 00 (which is 2/0) then 000 (which is 3/0).

Some think cable size 1/0 = 1 (it does not) or possibly the other way round that 1 = 1/0 (that is wrong as well.)

Charles thank you for the explanation. I didn't know this sizing numbering and it always confounded me. Now I know better. :D

Yes they do keep going, but good luck finding them in a UL Marine grade wire.

+1 on the Genuinedealz made cables. They will have the correct ends, correctly crimped, with even your choice of shrink tubing color! makes it nice to identify which cable is which.

Nice idea...thought about it but then I have to remove existing cables...measure...etc. I'm used to making my own cables. I enjoy having the knowledge that the cables are properly done etc.
