After significant research and several querries on this forum, I decided to order an Autoprop for my Hunter 340. Earlier today I had my first chance to put it through it's paces. Performance was as advertised with the exception of not being able to reach hull speed ( a fair disappointment). I was able to motor smoothly at lower rpms. However, when engaging the transmission in forward and to a lesser extent in reverse, there is a significant audible noise and vibration as the prop blades shift. I have some serious concern about possible damage to the drive train, strut and bearing. I would like to think that this is not a problem. I am not looking forward to finding a replacement and hauling my boat again. Autoprop reports that the noise has been commonly reported but stopped short of giving a "no problem" guarantee. Any help with this issue would be very much appreciated. Johnnie Engesser Hunter 340 Grace

Vibrating prop

The couple of people I met with Autoprops made no mention of noise or vibration. My laymans view is that vibration can't do good and if excessive could do damage. Do you have enough clearance in all directions? If so I'd pin autoprop down on some specific questions that establish if your vibration is abnormal and what causes the noise etc.
