autoprop conversion

i am hoping to get opinions or even shared experiences on changing my 17 inch two blade prop to an expensive but highly acclaimed autoprop. i have a very hard time backing into my docking space (weeds and cross winds) ,plus i get a lot of vibration over 2500 rpm .the ads claim better reverse control as well as better speeds at lower rpm ,exactly what i need. but because of the cost,it would be more reassuring to get feedback from those who have tried one .or maybe some other prop might be better suited.

Your Prop

Go to the big boat forum on 9/8 and look at 430 prop. We had quite a discussion about props. I just received my new prop from Kilian props, and will be testing it over the next two weeks on vacation. my experience

I had an autoprop installed during my last haul-out. When the prop went into reverse, the blades would hit the strut. (H410) The folks at autoprop suggested that a shaft saver be installed, but my prop guy said that this would increase vibrations. My solution was to return the autoprop, thank you very much, and install a considerably less expensive three-blade fixed prop, with which I am thrilled.

Works great

I have one installed on a 37.5. It made a big difference. Backing up is much better than with the 2 blade. We used to have to go several boat lengths past our slip in order to back in. Now we can do it in 1 boat length. Boat speed improved noticably. Don't know why but once it is in the water it never hits the strut. Out of the water I have to have the boat yard be careful when they pressure wash the prop since the blades revolve and will hit the strut. I have had it on the boat for 3 years and lots of hours motoring...
