Is the Linear Drive unit for the Sailpilot 5000 the same as the Type 1 modular Linear Drive? If so why is the Sail pilot 5000 rated for a lower weight limit then the 6000 using the same linear drive?

Linear Drive Specifications

The ST5000 Sailpilot uses the same Type 1 Linear drive as the modulator Type 100 course computer systems. The Type 1 drive is rated for 20,000 Lbs Outfitted displacement when used with the ST5000 and 24,000 Lbs when used with the central Type 100 Course Computer in an ST6000 or ST7000 system. The reason for this is in the design of the drive circuitry that runs the Linear Drive. The drive will work harder with in the higher displacement boats and will generate more heat in the electronics drive circuitry. The drive circuitry in an ST5000 system is in the control head and can not dissipate heat very efficiently. The modular systems have remotely mounted course computer with cooling fins that are able to dissipate more heat. You will most likely burn out the drive circuitry if the pilot is not specified properly.
