Autopilot problems

On my "put away" trip to the boat yard, my ST6000 suddenly gave me a unusual message...something about the course exceeding rudder stops, or the seas were too heavy to hold course. We were playing with the Radar/Chart at the time so I chalked it up to something we did. I shut everything down and fired it back up, but we continued to get the same message (I can't remember the exact error message). I tried it without the Radar/chart, but it just wouldn't hold course for more then a few minutes. We were motoring at the time and the seas were calm, etc. Nothing that would have caused stress on the rudder and/or drive. Any clues as to what might have happened or how to correct the problem.

Drive Stopped?

There are several things that can cause you to get a "drive stopped?" message. Is this what you were seeing. This is the system telling you that it is trying to make a rudder angle change, but it is not seeing a response from the rudder reference. This could be a problem with the drive circuitry in the course computer, drive unit, drive unit cable or rudder reference. I would suggest calling Raymarine Technical Support at 800 539 5539, Mon0Fri 0400-1730 EST. They should be able to narrow the problem down for you. You should try to have complete product details along with vintage and installation dates. Is the message that you witnessed "drive stopped".

Drive stopped

Bill, yes, that's the error message I received. Thanks. I'll get the details this weekend and give them a call.
