So I am looking to get information on a new autopilot for my boat, a Hunter 27. After having to steer and trim at the same time, I decided it was time. I started looking at the above listed pilots as they would fit the need, without having a lot of install complications.

I did some research last year when I was shopping for an A/P. I opted for the Simrad W/P 32. I liked the fact that the whole unit was one piece, also, Raymarine was being bashed for poor customer support. I do not mean to imply that I made the right choice, just the right choice for me. There must be a bunch of info in the archives. Also, wiring the gps to the A/P can be tricky, be sure to read the archives for that too. All money very well spent with no regrets. Good luck, Jack

yup I asked.

Long before I looked at the archives. If someone who has the W32 can do me a favor, what is the distance from center to end of control? I also need verticle height info. I have a lewmar pedistal and not sure if it will fit with the throttle control being there...

be aware that after they get you money raymarine hides in the morass of the owners's manual that the unit is for use only in calm water.

I have a WP32...

But won't be near the boat until this weekend. Did you check the user manual for the WP32? (link to user manual, third one down)

Simrad had the measurements

I called Simrad and raymarine both to get the measurements. Simrad called back with all the info, still waiting on Raymarine. Lewmar informed me that the Raymarine would fit as that is what sailtime uses.

WP32 VS. S1

I HAVE JUST RECENTLY INSTALLED A SIMRAD WP32 ON MY CATALINA 30. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH IT AND SO FAR IT SEEMS TO WORK AS WELL AS ANY AUTOHELM I'VE USED. IF YOU WANT A NEW AND DISCOUNTED RAYMARINE S1 I SURE HAVE ONE TO SELL. THE RAYMARINE NOW REQUIRES A RUDDER POSITION SENSOR. MY BOAT WILL NOT ACCOMODATE IT WITHOUT CUTTING PIECES OF FIBERGLASS OFF THE BOAT. THE WP32 IS REALLY EASY TO INSTALL. I WOULD LIKE $900 FOR MY NEVER USED RAYMARINE S1.

FRANKLIN, MY BOAT IS A 89" C30. IF THE RAYMARINE 4000 WAS STILL AVAILABLE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MY FIRST CHOICE JUST BECAUSE I AM FAMILIAR WITH IT. I BOUGHT THE S1 BECAUSE A WESTMARINE SALESMAN TOLD ME IT WAS WHAT I WANTED. HOWEVER THEY WERE ON BACK ORDER AT WEST MARINE FOR ABOUT 5-6 MONTHS. I BOUGHT THE S1 ON LINE FROM A VENDOR WITHOUT A RETURN POLICY ($120 LESS THAN WEST MARINE - WHO DIDN'T HAVE IT IN THE FIRST PLACE) THE RUDDER POSITION INDICATOR MOUNTS TO THE STEERING QUADRANT. ON MY BOAT THERE IS NO ROOM WITHOUT A LOT OF FIBERGLASS CUTTING. RAYMARINE WOULD NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS EITHER ON THE PHONE OR EMAIL. THEY HAVE REALLY EARNED THEIR REPUTATION FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. HAPPILY THE SIMRAD WAS INSTALLED IN ABOUT 2 HOURS AND WORKS FINE FOR LAKE SAILING. THE RAYMARINE S1 WILL GO ON EBAY TONIGHT. ANYONE INTERESTED IN IT CAN CONTACT ME AT swp@theriver.com

WP32 on a Lewmar pedestal?

Thanks for all the info. Jim, I think I am going to go with the WP32, the customer support issues of the raymarine equipment bothers the heck out of me! Has anyone installed a WP32 on a Lewmar Enguard pedestal? Can you send me a picture? I have concerns with the location of the throttle and the controls.
