I recently purchased a Raymarine ST4000+, and I'm currently planning -out my installation. Where is the best location to install the fluxgate compass. I was thinking of installing it on the back wall of the engine compartment but there is a wiring block right in the middle. My second choice is at the back end of the quarter birth under the cock pit bench. However even if I install it as close as possible to the inside corner it will not be centered in the boat. Also I wanted to know from those of you who have installed an Autopilot where you mounted the control unit. I had planned on mounting mine on my pedestal guard however the instructions require it be mounted 9" above my existing compass, and I only have about 7".My second mounting choice would be on the port side of the cockpit accross from the engine controls. This way if I install the fluxgate compass under the port bench it will be close. Any opinions or recommendations on the best mounting locations on a Hunter 27 is most appreciated. Happy Cruising !!!

H28 ST4000+

Mike, I installed the fluxgate compass on my H28 in the aft berth, right beneath the helm well. Then I ran the wire through the aft watertight bulkhead into the transom well and around the starboard side to the head using an existing wire route. That way it was dead on center and far enough away from the ferrous metal in the propulsion room. It worked great in this location. Good luck. Terry S/V Belle-Vie
