I'd like to replace the autohelm on my Hunter 29.5. I have the control head but the drive unit has been tossed before I took ownership of the boat. The hitch comes in that someone has told me that the original factory install was a poor location and that the way it is mounted wears the drive unit out. Can any other owners out there tell me if they have had issues with this before I spend the money on the new drive unit?

Don't think you can get them anymore
I've tried to get replacement parts and RayMarine said that they no longer support the ST4000. I never had any problems with the drive but the clutch lever has broken off a few times. I think most are upgrading to a newer product. I know I'll need one soon also. Not a RayMarine though. Good Luck, Joe

you can use the MK II drive
The Mark II wheel drive works with the old head, you can still get those from Raymarine or ebay
