Has anyone added an autopilot to the wheel steering system on an O'day 322? What make did you install? Where there any problems with installation/operation? Thanks

Simrad WP32
I have a O'Day 35 not a 322 but I replaced the Autohelm 3000 that I had with a Simrad WP32 and what a difference. First the Simrad has no external belts and is always mounted unlike the 3000 which requires mounting an external belt. The 3000 was unable to steer the boat if there was much weather helm but the WP32 seems to handle all but the worst weather helm. To activate the WP32 you press one button and turn down the clamp handle. If you connect a GPS and are going to a waypoint or following a route, you just press the naviagate button and it will guide you there.

Big Boat Autopilot
Our O40 came with an Autohelm 4000 installed, and we had no trouble with it at all on our delivery trip. It is a little startling if it is not completely unengaged when you apply power from the breaker the first time, though, as it tries to ratchet the wheel until the lever is flipped all the way. Autohelm 4000
Hi, John I installed my raymarine 4000 with no problem, and its works great I sail alone maney times and its great when you tack you just push the two bottons together and you tack 100 or 120 degress what you set it for.What I have read of other people had problems with the 4000 because they didn!t installed the fluxgate compass in the right place. In my oday 28 I mounted in the portside center storage locker as close to the center of the boat under the cushions away from any metal items. and my wheel compass machtes the autohelm compass. Its my 1 first maet on board AS I said I haven!t had any problems so far its 3 seasons now, So this is my input. Frederick Pierce.

Fedrick, Pat and Bill, Thanks for the response. I haven't made up my mind yet, but the Raymarine 4000 sounds very good. GdayII. I hadn't heard of the WP32 until I read about it in your response. I certainy will look into it. Thanks to all for responding. John

Autopillot ODay 40
Bill, where is your fluxgate compass mounted? I did not instal my 4000, boat came with it. It does not work. When I do an auto config for deviation, the returned number is 23. The book states anything over 15 is bad and the fluxgate should be laced in another location. Thanks
