I just pruchased a 1984 Hunter 31. The Dept Sounder, Knotmeter, Speed, Trip distance, water temperature, etc. is measured & displayed vis a ST50 Tridate & Repeater by Autohelm. The previous owner used the boat little, but, assures me that the system was working. It isn't now. The display activates. The depth & speed don't read at all & the temperature isn't accurate. How do I start to remedy this? Apparently the fault is not in the sensors since nothing works correctly.

Check Seatalk

I'm not an expert, but I have the same system. Here are some thoughts while waiting for Jim to return. Do the digital displays indicate anything or are they dead? The system "daisy-chains" all the instruments on the SeaTalk network, and the connectors that go from instrument to instrument carry power as well as data, so you want to be sure that you have power to the displays. If some have indications and others don't, look for loose connectors between the displays. Also check the connections from the sensors to their dedicated display.

Oops...

I misread your post. You must have power because the displays DO show something. Again, check the cables from the sensors to the display at the display end. Remove and clean the speed sensor impeller and it's shaft. Might spin it by hand while someone looks at the display to see if it reads anything.
