Hi everybody I have an Autohelm ST50 Plus log which so far has performed excellent. Recently is has stopped to retain its calibration factor when power is recycled. If the calibration factor is entered and stored correctly, it is simply reset to 1.0 (factory default) whenever the power is swithched off/on. Does anyone know if this is caused by an internal battery being exhausted??

Bad memory battery

How old is the unit? Just like a computer that has a battery to keep the clock running while the power is off, there is a battery/capacitor that stores the calibration factor between power cycles. Try this, leave the circuit breaker turned on and turn off the unit at the unit. Turn it back on and see if the calibration factor is retained. If it is then try the same thing but cycle the CB. If the calibration factor is not retained then it is surly the aux power supply. They only last a few years and then need replaced just like your computer clock battery.

ST50 Log

There is no mention of a "Memory Battery" in the manual. I would check with Raymarine. My ST50+ speed log, depth, and ST400+ auto Pilot are 13 years old, and I have never had this trouble (and I have never replaced a "memory Battery")!
