My ST4000 head has failed after many years of service. I have access to a ST5000+ head. Can anyone tell me if the ST5000+ is downward compatible to work with the other components of my old ST4000+? I am not having much luck with the Raymarine forum or contact info.

ebay motors might source you the ST 4000 head which will simplify your rx considerably. i will face the same problem when my 4000 goes.... it's now 13.

"The ST5000 Plus is a SeaTalk compatible autopilot, available for sterndrive or hydraulic steering systems, can also repeat instrument data in a programmable selection of Data Pages."
"The ST4000 Plus is a SeaTalk compatible autopilot available for tiller or wheel drive steering systems."
The ST5000 Plus will not work with a wheel drive autopilot system.

My control head is a ST5000+. Attached to an old Autohelm wheel drive unit. Totally works fine. If anyone can tell me how it's not working properly, or how the ST4000+ would work better, let me know, but seems to perform completely as expected.
