I have a Autohelm wind speed system. One of the cups at the top of the mast is gone. I only have 2 now rather then 3. I believe this is called the transducer... i checked the cups a month ago when the mast went up and everything seemed sound... Odd. Anyone know where I can get a replacement transducer for the ST30? Or will I be able to use a different transducer with my display instrument? I wouldn’t mind getting a different transducer, but don’t want to replace the display... Thanks. FOB.

Transducer Rebuild

We had ours rebuilt from a local marine electronics repair shop here near the marina. I went up the mast, took it down (unscrew and pull it out) and they rebuilt it for me for $97.00. They did a great job and it looked good as new. I thought that was a bargain since replacing it was out of the question. Of course there was more done to it than just replace the cup.

didnt even know that was an option

I didnt know ppl can recondition those... im going to look around for someone around me that can do it... Question. This is a new boat to me and i dont remember the tranducer have a screw at the top where the cups are? did you bring the cups and shaft/pole to the person that reconditioned it for you? if so, that means you had to cut the cable (red and blue one if i remember correcty) THANKS!!

Yep, I took the whole topside unit.

The entire wind thing went to the marine electronics store - shaft and all. The POs had gone under a too short bridge with a too tall mast and bent the aluminum shaft and broke off a cup, so the entire thing had to be rebuilt. Ours was also an older Autohelm - not compatible with the newer ST60s, so I suspect the set up is the same as yours. The unit attaches with a large plastic nut type cap that you just unscrew. Once unscrewed you can just pull the unit directly out of the electrical connection on the mast head. DON'T cut any wires - you won't need to - it's just a male/female electrical connection. If you are still unsure of what it looks like, visit a marine electronic repair store and ask to see a similiar unit. They can demonstrate what it looks like and how it all goes together (that's what I did). The most challenging part of the whole evolution was going aloft on our CAL 34! Best wishes, I hope it all works out!

ALSO - if needed I can give you the name and # of the repair shop I used here in Virginia, but I'm sure there must be someone local for you in Ontario. Let me know if you need it - piercevb@cox.net
