I wanted to thank Aldo, Don and Randy for their valuable input concerning buying a Autohelm ST1000. I just purchased it from Sailnet, got the remote and free shipping too! I was standing on the rail and you guys helped me make a positive decision. Thank you.

Last week, I too was standing on the rail wondering if I should get this autopilot. I posed the question on another forum that pretty much pushed me over the edge too and I ordered one from Sailnet. In the related link below, is the thread for the Autohelm ST1000 that is on the Catalina 25/250 site and in this thread is a post from Albert(about 8 posts down) that has a link to his Autohelm installation. It has pictures of his installation along with couple of good ideas as to cable connections. Check it out.

Rex: I couldn't open the link that Don attached, at least not on this computer, and I really wanted to. I try at home, later. I have received 2 requests for the photos showing my installation, so far, and have forwarded the photos. I'll try to attach one to this response. It shows my starboard coaming compartment where I put the connectors for the autopilot, remote, and the switches and fuses. This panel was my first attempt, and I made it from a scrap of plastic that I had. I didn't want to drill any more holes in my boat than I had to, and the holes that I drilled for this are all covered up by the teak trim ring. This spring, I will add the connector to connect the GPS to this panel. I might even reduce the size of it if I have time. I'll still send you the other photos showing the mount, if you want.
