Just finished a fairly long trip without autohelm. I have seen the 4000 which clamps onto the wheel and am not to keen on the look. Are there other makes that can be hidden below? I have a Witlock Cobra direct drive system. I have seen a Lewmar that looks compatable with the Cobra. How difficult would it be to install? Should I leave it to a pro? Comments...

Try B & G

I have had problems with my ST4000 since i got it 4 years ago. Just not reliable. My freind and West Marine associate just installed a B & G unit on his boat and likes it. It is a little more expensive than Raymarine crap but it works which is exactly the reason my friend gave for spending the extra money. Granted, i know many asailor who have ST4000s and think they are OK but I would not go that route again. bandg.com is the web site. West Marine does not carry this brand any more but i happen to know that they have a few left in their warehouse so you might be able to deal with them.

Easy to install

I have a Simrad WP30 on my 272LE, granted it's wheel mounted but its self contained (no exposed belts)and so easy to install and set up. The main portion of it also can be temporarly removed easily if your concerned about things walking (or swimming). Makes long runs or nav. routes with the GPS a snap. Brian.
