Anyone have a good location for an Autohelm fluxgate compass on this boat? I was thinking of under the rear berth as close to centre line as I can get. Doesn't seem to be much magnetic/iron stuff close to that.

Patrick, I put it on the aft berth stern...

Rear berth
My fulgate was installed by a pro in the lower berth centerline in lower compartment in rear berth. Hows the sailing been in charlotte harbor. nick

We have a 1991 Hunter 30 and as you will see in the photo attached that the fluxgate for our Autohelm ST4000 is mounted in the galley and it works just fine Hope this helps.

I installed our fluxgate in the rear cabin dresser
that is located on the outer hull. It is on a AH 6000 system and was inspected and approved by a Autohelm rep. Works fine. Remember, the outer hull points the same as the centerline.

Port aft locker works
The installers positioned the fluxgate compass inside the port aft locker (the deep one), which concerned me initially - but performance is excellent. In retrospect, this makes sense -- after all, this location is very close to the compass, and (presumably) every effort has been made to keep magnetized materials away from the ship's main compass..
