I have an Autohelm 6000 and I'm looking for a little input. The Autohelm is more than 20 years old. It's never given me trouble until this season.
I've gotten great input from Autopilot Repair Buy and Sell and I will go that route but I have one question. I've gotten a lot of input from my dock mates suggesting that I may have lost calibration. I didn't see anything in my owners manual about re-calibration. Any input on how that might be done??
My Autohelm only has (6) six buttons and a gain dial. No displays.

Thanks,
Jack

Do you have the manual?

If not, you can download it from the Raymarine website, they're pretty good about that "legacy" stuff. :)

Good luck.

Do you mean the fluxgate compass appears to need "calibration?"

Kings Gambit,
I believe that is the term used. Fluxgate compass. I know where it is located but it appears to be sealed and one cable going away from it. DO you know how to calibrate it??

I don't have my manual with me at home. Essentially, you press and hold the Standby button on the display panel until the display switches to calibration or compass adjust mode. You then slowly (less than 2 knot speed) & widely circle the boat three times or until the compass deviation value pops up on the display. It should take you about 3 min to make one circle. Do this in flat, calm water. This corrects for compass deviation of the fluxgate compass. [Make sure there are no metal objects or magnetic items such as speakers stored or mounted close to the fluxgate compass.] You should also get a heading on the display. Use your course change buttons to align the display heading with your binnacle compass heading or with a known [magnetic] bearing. To save, press Standby again for 1 sec. However, there are other calibrations [besides fluxgate compass] that can be made to the steering. Need to get yourself a manual.

If you put a ferrous medal near the fluxgate it would throw your ap off. Mke sure you did not do that.
