've a 1994 Hunter 29.5 that came with an auto pilot when we purchased it some 7 years ago. The display in the pilot area was weak and eventually went blank. Needless to say we never had the use of this device. Ray Marine is the manufacture but I don't home ave the model number with me at the moment. We did have a local marine mechanic from the Hunter dealership take a look at it and he said it was "shot". My own inspection revealed that some of the hardware still looked good and I am anxious to know if I can replace just some of the parts without having to buy another new auto pilot. The mechanic recommended a Ray Marine FPX 5. Is there anyway I can have my old component fixed without having to buy new? If yes...is there someone who has the expertise (or knows someone) who can fix this for me? We want to cross Lake Michigan in our boat but need the auto pilot to do so. Any and all advice will be appreciated.

Sent the Raytheon ST4000 into Trident Marine Electronics and Oliver Midgette was quite helpful but my control device suffered some water damage and couldn't be repaired. Oliver said that I could use a ST 3000, 4000 or 5000 control unit with my current set up without having to replace the entire unit. Went on E-Bay searching for this but have yet to find one. Anyone out there have one of these that they would sell for a reasonable price...even one not currently working but capable of being fixed?
