Just heard about this http://www.madmanmarine.com/

It is roughly half the cost of the raymarine remote, and appears to do all the same functions.

Anyone heard of this company before, or better yet have experience with them?

Autopilot remote from Mad Man Marine

I'm using the Raymarine wired remote for my autopilot. Nice to have when single handed and doing foredeck work. The remote that you referenced had some chatter on Sailing Anarchy. Here's the link.

I'm not sure how useful the wireless remote would be if you went overboard and tried to steer the boat back to you or head to wind. It has limited range but it's worth a try. It's one of the features talked about in that thread. I tried contacting the seller/developer with some questions but never got a response. Makes me wonder how the after sales support would be.

I actually just finished reading that thread a few minutes ago... sounds like it is working well for the few customers who have it so far.

today, an AUS dollar is about 0.95 American.. making the control around $170. The rate is normally about 1:1 but lots of this year, the AUS dollar was worth aroound 1.1 US.. making the control $198.. so it will be somewhere in there.

Only for the wireless autopilot system right?
I have the older system that uses a hardwired remote. Not interested in that.
But if this could be adapted...

It should work on any raymarine AP that has a seatalk interface. At least one confirmed user with a wheel pilot I found on SA...

The price is right, if it works and lasts, but if not it's still money down the bilge...

Hello all,

I've just recently found this thread and have joined the forum to hopefully correct any wrong impressions given by previous posts about my company Madman Marine. To that end I have sent a pm to Ted and am eagerly awaiting his reply.
I don't want to break any forum rules so if you would like any information please contact me by pm.

Cheers,
Neil.

Neil

I have an old ST 6000 Raytheon AP control. Ray only offers wired remote for this. It does have a Seatalk connection. Will your unit work with my ST 6000?

Thnx

It should work, yes. If it didn't work you would just send the remote back and I would refund your money and postage costs so that you wouldn't be out if pocket.

What type of boat do you have?

Cheers,
Neil.

Neil, can you acknowledge the waypoint reached / course change alarm on the ST2000+ (+10 & -10 at the same time) from the remote?

I have a windey harbor entrance and have a route programmed that takes me in/out the channel, while I get sails ready or put away and take care of fenders etc. Some of the waypoints are only 90 seconds apart, and I have to run from the mast or bow to press the acknowledge key combination to make the boat turn...

The short answer is 'no'. I haven't been able to confirm that the command to enter Track mode (which is accomplished by pressing buttons C & D on my remote and works fine) also acknowledges a waypoint change in Track mode.

FourPoints, In case you haven't seen it yet I've sent a pm to you.

I've had some email exchanges with Neil a few times and he's always been real responsive. I plan on buying one.

Thanks Mark. Speaking of being responsive, I still haven't heard from Ted yet. I've searched all my emails and can't find any previous correspondence from him, which doesn't mean there wasn't any correspondence of course.

Hopefully he'll be along soon - I'd like the opportunity to answer his questions.

I'm sending a remote to Florida tomorrow. I imagine sailing is year round there?

I'm working on another with a SeaTalkNG connector to see if that will work with the latest autopilot model. A kind bloke in Sweden has offered to trial it.

I've added a video to my website showing a remote control in use. The video was recorded by a customer in Alaska and shows 'real life' use from the bow of his boat. The customer has kindly given me permission to use the video and is in fact the same person who recorded the video on my homepage.

Hi Ken,

Yes, postage would be $20 to Singapore and is trackable. Just select the US, Canada & NZ shipping option on my website.
