I've have a Hunter 1991 28' AutoHelm st4000. Close hauled an on a reach holds pretty well. On a beam reach or running forget it, it well come about or jib. Any suggestions?

hmm

in my opinion, there isn't much you can do about it because a sailboat likes to naturally point into the wind and when on a beam reach, I don't think any 'Fred' can keep up quick enough to compensate for that charistic and almost always the waves pushing you. Proud owner of an ST1000T here with the same problem. :)

Reconfigure The Sensitivity

Check your manual for the settings. I know I used the 'powerboat' setting since I was getting too much movement in quartering seas for my taste, and most of that was under power anyway. Know that you have more current draw though. If you don't have the manual, they are available inline at Raymarine. Rick D.

Rick thanks. I've set the response at 1 & 2 and gain one thru 9 I have tried all the settings. What do you know about a rudder referance?

Have Seen The References

...on a couple of threads, Ron. Worth calling them to discuss, I have one on my 40.5, but had the straight 4000 on my Vision 32 which I owner-installed. The 4000 on my bost handled everything very well for the nine years I has it, even in some pretty big sloppy stuff. It did work hard on big following seas, but it never lost it. Good luck, RD
