I'm in the process of purchasing a Hunter 240 and I've been told that Auto Helm is a great feature. I'm very handy with tools etc. and I'm considering intalling Auto myself. Where would I purchase such a product and would the ST1000 work or should I go with the 2000+ modal? Thanks,

ST1000+ -- Good Choice

We've used an ST1000+ on our H23.5 for 3 years and it performs quite well. It can't accomplish miracles under gusty winds and waves but it does let you motor and sail fairly flat with no troubles. It couples to any GPS that has a NEMA 183 output.... (most do). It let's you navigate like the big guys! The ST1000 has several parameters that can be programmed by the user to accomodate size of boat and the speed of rudder control. It's also possible to reprogram to allow attaching to either starboard or port sides. Many of us have contributed installation hints and they should be available in the archives, complete with pictures. It's well worth the money, but I'm not too sure the remote control is of much use? Navico

I bought the basic Navico tiller pilot 2yrs ago. It's been the best added piece of equipment so far. It works great and holds course for hours with little or no corrections to add. The basic version didn't allow connection to my GP, but I probably wouldnt use it anyway. It was also less expensive. And theoretically has less to go wrong. It has been quite sturdy and has held up well through 2 & 1/2 seasons. Joe
