Picking up on Joe's (25 years later) recycler concept ,
I have decided to make a set of rub on decals that match the O'day font. These decals can be hand applied and will look just like they were screen printed onto the panels (the same look as the original panels).
I will be making lines and rounded corners so anyone can recreate the white trim on the Oday panels.
The O'day logo is Century Gothic font with a pennant in place of the apostrophe. I'll made it in several sizes. I will also be printing many common words that might show up on a control panel.
It costs me nothing to add more words so I need help from all of you for suggestions. I will then print them all off and send a set to anyone interested. (This is not a money making venture)
I don't have my panel in from of me so I am not sure as to the correct font and size to be used on the panel. I'll be sure to get a good match before I go into printing. These words can breaker labels that fit inside the blank white outlined boxes or text for an entirely new panel to match the others.

As an example, I am making a LED dimmer panel that will sit along side of the AC panel. I will use the lines and rounded corners to make the white outline and place the O'day logo in the bottom corner. I'll use the words overhead and floor, port and starboard to label the dimmers.

Everything will be printed in white since all O'day panels are painted black.

The correct font does not show up on this forum so be sure tell me the font and the size if it is different than what is printed on the original panel.

I'll head to the boat in a day or so and get match the fonts and sizes printed on the panels.

I took a picture of the two examples of the what I'm talking about. We call it press on screen print. Each word will come on it's own card and is easily transferred.

So here are the words I have come up with, please reply with suggestions and be sure to state if they are just a suggestion or a word that you have a current need for. Current needs will come first if I run out of room.

Todd, this sounds interesting. Having been privy to some of your other work I can't imagine they will be anything less than outstanding.

I have received a few questions. Yes, boat names are OK. You pick the font and font size. Let's limit it to fonts found in Microsoft word.

I'm really interested in the O'Day logos. It would be great to have some new stickers.

As for the breaker labels in the original post my breaker panels have:
stereo
VHF
blower
chart ploter
running lights
steaming lights

pgiorda,
Where do you want to put the O'day logos and how big should they be. Anything you are interested in the rest of us will appreciate as well.

This type of graphic is not a traditional sticker. Only the ink is transferred to the surface not the backing. It looks like it has been screen printed just like your breaker panel. One catch , the surface must be smooth. Varnished wood is OK, Gelcoat good, hull liner fabric NOT, etc.

Final list.
This will take a week or so to print. I'll let everyone know when it is available at no charge. I'll give the rest to Rudy if he is interested.
Again, These will be press on letters with a clearocoat over them . They will fit within the blank boxes in the main breaker panel. OR make your own panel, paint it black and press on the words. The panel will match the look of the original breaker panel.

The white lines on the control panel are 2.4 pt. the corners are 11/64 radius

The Oday logo is Century Gothic with a pennant for the apostrophe

The labels are Century Gothic as well.

Here are the labels requested plus a few more I added Please check for spelling and preferred abreveation.

The labels my not show up on the forum as Century Gothic because that font may not be supported. Trust me, they will look just like the Oday panel.

Thank for the suggestions via private message and on this forum.

Here are the decals

I printed a few in black as well. As you can tell by last photo they can be used on any smooth surface. The blue background is a 3 ring notebook.
We have wine store that uses them for wine glasses. They are durable but not dishwasher safe.
To make the outline you need the long line and the circle shown just above the Windlass. Cut 1/4 out of the circle to make a corner.

Again, just send me an address and what you need and I will send them out next week. No strings just a Holiday gift from a fellow O'day owner.

I just returned from a grueling business trip. Airlines cutting costs and winter conditions produces hours of sitting on the tarmac.
Anyway...
I'll be mailing the labels out this week. Keep in mind that even though these were all printed in a set, they are now cut into individuals so you can have 4 large O'days to put on a wine glass set (example) I've got hundreds of each item and need just the few for my boat.

We had to eliminate some of the items when we set up the printing. (Panic button) was a favorite that was unfortunately removed. Maybe we do it again next year.
I'm still taking requests

Hi Todd. These are really an excellent addition to the Oday line of stuff available. Once I make the final rub out on YOT I will be looking for the decals that said Oday with the triangular asterisk Just like the ones you are making that were affixed to the aft shear stripes. Any chance these might become available at the next printing?

Joe, Good idea. Maybe our next project might be to use this forum to get all the decals for all models. This will benefit all O'day owners. We could possibly sell them to Ruddy to cover the cost and allow him to offer them to his customers.

Oday Metal Emblems

I have an Oday 28 and I have a funny story to share.

Mine is a 1983 28ft. and the oval metal emblems on the sides were corroded and faded so I thought I would try to clean them up some. I took them off to take home and had the two in my pocket one day as I was chatting with my motorcycle head next door neighbor. He suggested that I get them powder-coated as he does for his bike parts and he happen to know the guy to do it.

Sounded cool so I take them up there to this powder coat place and they look at me funny and say they might could do it. I leave the two emblems there and after a few days I call. They then tell me that in the process of "gassing" the metal emblems, which was a method of removing impurities from the metal, they had them both hung in a heated room via the mounting holes, they melted and fell to the floor and broke in pieces. :cussing::eek::cussing::eek::cussing::eek::cussing::eek::cussing::eek:

I was so pissed. I told them these cannot be replaced and they said they would try to repair them. Well they tried but the metal was so warped and distorted that I said thanks but no thanks.

Well this made me even more determined to get this done right that I asked some of my fellow mechanical CATIA engineers at where I work to see if they could do a 3D model of the emblem. They did and I sent the CATIA file to a few local metal fabricators with a CNC machine here in town and they quoted $400.00 each. Wow, no thanks

We have a huge Stereolithograph machine as well at work which is a machine that can take a mechanical 3D file and basically make a solid plastic part from liquid plastic. This worked well as shown in the pics but I was warned that these parts are very suspect to failure to UV rays and would not last long in the sunlight. AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

So I finally decide to see about getting a stainless steel plaque made. I find a nice web site that can make custom size plaques. They matched the font and here they are. I am getting a friend who does custom wood work to make 2 wood oval backing plates with the emblems inset. Hope to get them this week and will post more pics of the completed deal.

Wish me luck

They look great..
Please check with the Plaque maker a see if the black is screen printed. If so, you have found a great product. I suggest you tell Ruddy at D&R Marine so he can stock them.
If it was printed digitally or other , it will not likely handle the UV.
Plaques are made either for interior or exterior applications. You need to find out what you have.
