Is there any way I can attach the anchor under the bowsprite of my Hunter 29.5 for quick release and retrieval-- for instance to a stainless steel bowgard-- ? Thanks for your reply

Bowroller

I will start by indicating I'm not familiar with the 29.5 but I did installed a bowroller on an H-27 Cherubini. The anchor used was "claw" as it had no moving parts. The boat had a center cleat behind the roller furler and this was removed and replaced by two smaller cleats on each side of the anchor locker. The port side chock was removed as well. The bowroller was purchased at a salvage yard but you can get one at West Marine. the size would depend on the available space and the weight of the anchor. It needed to be angled to one side to allow the anchor shank to clear the furler. Also positioned so the the flukes did not hit the hull. I marked and drilled for bolts and used large thick washers as backing plate. A chain stopper holds the anchor in place. The way the roller was angled the chain behind the stopper fed right in to the locker. It is a very tight fit to work in the inside at the forepeak and I wasn't able to place the outboard bolt at the front of the roller as it would have come out the hull. I had 5 bolts on the roller and that has proven to be enough. That was the single best improvement done on that boat.

Found a picture

After I sent the message I looked and found a picture which will help illustrate the installation. Whichever way you go try to hang the anchor on the bow as it will substantially increase your sailing enjoyment. After the improvement nobody had any qualms about going up front and dropping or retreiving the anchor. I have anchored out in the Gulf under heavy surf and the rig has held.

Tanks a lot

Thank you very much for your reply and illustration. I hope the West Marine bowroller can fit on the Hunter 29.5 bowsprite. Thanks again, Michel
