I purchased a 16 gallon water tank that will fit perfectly under the cockpit. I think it would be wise to lay some support boards accross (port to stbd) this section. The floor is raised on either side of the bilge area, so I am led to believe I can drill down into this raised section (down towards the water), the boat is drydocked right now so I can seal the holes. If not is there another way to support the tank? The pic shows two red lines where I would propose laying 2x4's to act as support - I may need more, but it shows how they would lay. As always - THANKS!!

Glass them in fore 'n aft.

I would suggest that you glass the supports in fore and aft. Then place a good piece of plywood on them. This will give the tank that it needs and deserves. Then you will have something to screw into for the tank hold downs.

The 2x 4s will provide all the support needed.

If three 1x2 bed slats supported by nothing more than 1" bed frame rails at each end can support a king size box spring, mattress AND the weight of two people (total of at least 300 lbs), a couple of 2x4s will provide more than adequate support for a 16 gallon water tank (approx 140 lbs including the weight of the tank). And a pair of 2x4s is a lot less wood than a sheet of plywood that can rot in damp environment. From your photo, it looks as you have all kinds of places to attach one or two hold down straps.

Another option

Another choice for fastening the 2x4's is any bondo from a hardware store. Like liquid nails, etc. Read the tube, but most will adhere to glass among various other materials.

great advice - thanks!

Excellent advice - I like Peggie's concurrence that a couple of 2x4's will work and Bob's thought of using liquid nails to hold the boards in place. I am kind of sure the bottom surface is not the true hull, but screwing anything near the bottom makes me nervous. Thanks again!!
