I have an old o'day 17 with tabernackle hinged mast, and where my mast section below deck attaches to the bottom - it is not good. The mast adapter appears to have been cemented to a plate that is riveted to the bottom of the boat. Most of the cement appears to have corroded away. I am one week before vacation, and do not have time to get the boat in for a permanent repair. Does anyone know if cementing the mast adapter is ok, or is a disaster waiting to happen? I do not know how important that is to be repaired now. I'd like to cement it and be confident it will hold up for two weeks sailing before a permanent repair. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I dont know what kind of cement you are referring to. You might just clean it up real good, and use some epoxy, or 3m 4200, or something like that.
I would just do a temporary repair for now and then in the mean time go down to your public library and draw out some books on Fiberglas repair by Don Casey and read up on them.
Eventually you'll need to reconstruct the area under the mast step with Fiberglas Epoxy and core material. The placement of the tabernacle is very crucial and you are going to need to mark off some kind of reference points somehow that will enable you to get that mast placed in the proper spot.
Also, make note of the present height of the tabernacle and take this into consideration so that your stays will fit right after you've made your reconstructive repairs.
