New boat and asking for help. The bow plate has 2 holes to attach sails. The hole furthest aft has a cable attached by a shackle. The cable is about 1 foot long a has a loop spliced at each end. This was attached this way when I purchased the boat. I believe it's purpose is to attach a jib sail; however, i'm no sure. I have 2 jibs: a genoa with a 32'+ luff and a Jib with a 26"+ luff (also has a 14" extension cable at the head of the sail. Would it be used to raise the jib off the deck. If so, what jib would i use it with. I was thinking storm jib; however, boat did not come with one. Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure that eye at the end of that wire is for your Jib tack attachment. I'm guessing that the PO probably attached the quick shackle from the tack of the Gennie into that shackle on the bow stem plate when he wanted to use the Gennie.

Raising the tack of the headsail also changes the location of the sheet block. Possibly the PO had this in mind.

My 25 has a jib furler. The same 1' long pendant was attached at the head of the 110 jib sail using one of the eye splices. The halyard shackle attached to the other eye splice of the pendant.
I thought of putting it at the tack of the jib to raise it by that amount to help it clear the lifelines. That looks like what you have there.
FYI- My furler is attached to the forward hole of the chain plate.

Years ago I had Thurston Sails make me up a Main and a reef-able Genoa. I think that I got that idea from one of Lynne and Larry Pardey's books I was reading.
Reefing that Gennie to a Jib was a PITA. The sail maker at Thurston's gave me a short piece of line to tie to the tack of the sail when it was reefed to a Jib. I later added a quick shackle to it.

That looks like it is for attaching the jib. It helps keep it off the lifelines. Could use it for either jib or Genoa. My Genoa luff is to long to use a pendent with it so it has to go right to the plate.

One other thing I noticed is that your fore-stay turnbuckle seems to be out of threads for any more adjustment. I bring this up because when I first bought my boat it was the same. This left the back-stay turnbuckle adjusted out to far. It had only like 4 threads into the turnbuckle so you might want to check that. It also raked the mast way to far forward. Greg

With my forestay and backstay turnbuckles adjusted identically I find I have a neutral helm.
