We bought a one-year old M26 with a HOnda 50 hp motor already attached. THe way the motor is attached is a mess. We met a couple from Portland who had a great way of attaching thier outboard, using aircraft equipment. THey way ours is not attached, it squeeks and does not turn well. It is a very fragile way of putting a motor on a boat. We are preparing to tow the boat to San Carlos, Mexico in a few weeks and want to get this motor attached more securely. Any thoughts? Thanks, Rebecca and TOm

controls or bolts?

Hi Tom and Rebecca When you said "attached", were you addressing controls or actual attachment? The attachment is fairly straight forward. 3/8" stainless bolts with fender washers drilled and caulked through the existing holes? You can add a sheet of 1/4" aluminum, or expanded polystyrene , but it isn't generally required. If you are discussing controls, thats a different matter. Take a look at B-184 Uflex controls for example? I've not seen Honda controls, but if they have a side-mount starboard, internal control box , take a look maybe?

linkage bar

Hmmm, after reading your question again, I think you must be referring to the steering linkage? The rubbing/squeaking, is common to all M's and is reduced by lubricating the bar where it passes through the hole in the port side of the motor well. If you have the original motor to round bar linkage, You might benefit by upgrading to a Blue Water Yachts quick disconnect. I consider mine essential. I believe you can buy something similar from Cabelas's, but it's hard to find in their catalog. Best of luck.

Looking at my mount

I have a 50hp Evinrude bolted to my 26M and there are 4 bolts. Each being 7/16 stainless. Takes a 3/4 wrench and socket to bolt this baby in place. Pretty permanent installation. In other words, you trailer this with the motor in place. And the transom is built to take it. sardo
