Hi there! I recently installed a new thermostat because the overheating lite came on when the temp gauge was reading 190 degrees. Now the lite starts blinking at 175 degrees. But if I keep a lower rpm no lite and temp gauge stays below 160 degrees. I replaced vetus wet muffler, impellar, all water hoses, temp sending unit, drain petcock, water is spitting out the back intermittently and when I slow down the temp gauge goes down. My concern is the lite grey smoke and this blinking red overheating lite and the amount of water coming out the back exhausts things I haven't changed the vented loop ( does this need something attached to the vent at the top? It has water hose coming to it and going to the exhaust elbow) it look like new on the outside and not knowing who the previous owner was I had no one to ask all these questions of is anyone know how the light on the control panel gets is signal from and where on the block. Why is the temperature go up drastically when I give it a lot of rpm ? All help from anyone please I've seen to reach the end of the road until I head to the repair shop and pay someone a lot of money to take the cylinder head off I would appreciate all ideas thank you very much

Have you verified that the water intake thru hull is very clean and if it has a screen outside the boat that may be plugged? is the thru hull valve opening completely (verify valve full open when handle is opened).. water hose from thru hull to suction of pump .. verify that it is not collapsing at higher rpm; check all hose clamps are tight.... and that the hose is not restricted or kinked..
Engines need a LOT more cooling at higher power settings so it sounds like something is not letting the pump increase its volume with higher rpm as it should..

You may need to do cooling system flush to get all of the gunk out of the water jacket.

Does that engine have a heat exchanger? If so, it could be clogged (or shot), so need to pull the cover off it and check. On my M12, impeller teeth found their way in there. You also need to check to see if your water pump is pumping right and if teeth parts are stuck in the line off the pump to the heat exchanger or cooling system. Finally, is the line to the pump itself clear or maybe debris clogged? Problem can start right at the intake bottom of the hull. (Kloudie stated this correctly)
