1973 e-27 project boat , last hauld out 12/03 for bottom paint, engine is raw water cool'd. got the engine to run, no water at exhaust thru hull. impellar looks good. removed incoming hose at thermostat housing and with the engine running it was very slow to fill, how long should it take to get water thru system and out at thru hull? what else should i look into? t.i.a.

things to look at

Water flow into thru-hull (input side) Water flow at intake of pump Replace the impellor regularly (even if it looks good, it may not be turning) Salt build up in the engine (can you connect a garder hose with a "salt-away" supply?) other obstructions (old impellers) - can you back flush via a garden hose? Is there a hot water heater in the mix? Is this blocked?

Exhaust Injection Elbow?

Check the Exhaust Injection Elbow which should be an elbow or elbow and 'U' joint just aft of the engine exhaust manifold at which point the cooling water is injected into the exhaust just before the flexible exhaut hose connection. Clean out carbon build up or replace the components as required. See the archives on this site for more particulars.
