I have an Atomic 4 in my 1981 Catalina 30. The problem is the gas smell that comes from the carburator, There are no leaks anywhere and I've taped a cover on the flame arrester to identify the source. Can it be rebuilt or should I add a fuel shut-off valve in the gas line? This would also cure the noise problem I have when first mate is aboard.

How much air can your bilge blower move ? and do you Use it for a while before and after shuting down the motor ? The carb is going to be HOT for a while and the fumes wiil go somewere
Many small power boats have the same problem when all the canvas is up in bad weather and the fumes have no way out with running the blower Tommays

Then i would look at your fuel lines with The NEW gas and even as they get old they will weep fumes long before they have a leak Also were is the tank does it have a anti siphon valve ? between that and a leakey float seat in the carb it could also slowly dribbel gas out of the carb and into the intake I need to change my vent line this fall as it has started to swell from the ethanol in the fuel make sure you use A-1 fuel line Tommays
