My atomic 4 is running very cold (100 degrees) and spitting out cool water. Is it the thermostat? Is it doing damage to the engine? How do I fix it

Cool is a good thing.

I don't think there is a thermostat on the A-4. The water pump pulls in the water from whatever you're sailing in and it goes through the engine block as long as the engine is running. The water then goes into the exhaust housing and may have time to cool before exiting the boat. Unless the motor is not running well, I don't think you have a problem beyond a possible faulty water temp. gauge.

There is a Thermostat, Virginia

There is certainly a thermostat, or at least a thermostat housing in your engine. Check out www.moyermarine.com for further info. In short, your engine should be running between 120 and 160 degrees. 100 sounds a bit cool, but it beats 200 degrees for sure. The website will show you where to look for the thermostat. Let us know what you find! Rob R.

Yes the Atomic 4 does have a thermostat housing that should have a thermostat in it. The housing is on the top of the engine near the flywheel end. The thermostat should open around 120- 140 degrees. If the engine runs too cool there will be excess carbon build up that will lead to problems down the rd. Sign up to the Atomic 4 E-mail list or check out the archives. One of the best places on the web to find out info on the A4.
