atomic 4 shifter

I have an older Catalina 30(hull 315) and of course it has an older atomic 4 engine. I have no problem with the engine but it always has been a bear to shift either into reverse or forward. Is it supposed to be that way? Thanks for any advise. Archie

Lube

Have you tried lubing the shift cable? They are notorious for hard shifting if they are not properly lubed. Also, check the path of the cables - they can get hung up on all kinds of things on the way down to the shift lever on the transmission. Best Regards, Rob

Check transmission adjustment

Something else you may want to check is the transmission adjustment. It can be too tight and cause the shifting to be very stiff. Look in your engine manual in the troubleshooting section.
