I have a 1982 Catalina 27 that has a dead atomic-4 engine requiring either rebuilt or replacement. I saw an website at www.betamarinenc.com offering new Beta Marine BZ482 engine for the replacement for A-4. The price including delivery is about $5400. I have no knowledge how to evaluate this engine. Is there anyone having the experience with Betamarine's engine. How is it compared with New Universal Diesel that can also replace A-4? Anyone has the experience with the performance of Universal Diesel and its price? Thanks, Leon E-mail: kuoliangloh@yahoo.com

beta diesel

i think that price doesn't include installation or other extras like fuel tank, and other required pieces and parts- total price may be about $10,000

Beta Marine

I used to have an ericson 29 which I repowered with a beta marine bd722. I was extremely happy with the engine. It is built on the Kubota industrial engine block. The service points are all arranged for easy access from front of engine. I found the engine to be smooth running, relatively quite, and quite strong. In 1999, I paid ~$5,500 for the engine, and the installation just about doubled the cost. An important note - The engine sits a good bit higher than the A4, you will probably have to adjust the mounting beds for the hight difference.
