Considering a 1975 Oday 27. If need be, how difficult is it to remove an Atomic 4 from these boats? Thanks for any help.

not too hard to do. i had an s 28 a long time ago that had a a 4,and my cat 27 i have now does.i didnt take it out of the s 28,but did my cat.use the winches, both and run a rope under the moter, pull with both, engine will lift, slide it onto sole.then tie it again and winch it up through companionway into cockpit, then over side.moter weighs 350 lbs,i did it by myself, and also did it with a yanmar 3 gm 30 alone.i wont lie to u its a job,but just dont try to move the engine yourself,i mean with ur own strength, use ur winches.whats up with the a 4, man they are great engines

Thanks for the reply BJ. Don't know that I will have to pull the engine but just in case I wanted to find out what kind of ballpark I was in.

One of my friends has a Hunter 27 with an outboard and he wants to pull the inboard diesel engine out. A mechanic at the boatyard where he stores his boat for the winter is willing to pull it out at no cost just for the engine parts, but the greedy boatyard owner wants a piece of the action from my friend. Of course, it's a lot wiser to do this job on the hard than to do it with the boat in the water. My question is, can this engine be pulled out with the boat in the water without any worry of water leaking in around the propeller shaft? If not, we could probably pull the engine out for him at the club.
