I have a Universal Atomic Four 1972 and can't turn the flywheel
I've poured Marvel Oil and Vinegar down the cylinders and tried a 36" pipe wrench on the crank shaft. It wont budge.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Patience, Grasshopper.. Pull the cylinder head and PLEASE remove the vinegar ! after the bores are dried, get some PB Blaster and spray all around each piston.. then put in about a quarter cup of Marvel into each bore.. Then wait about a week .. Take a piece of 2X4 and bump the tops of any piston that is not fully up or fully down.. Bump with a hammer.. but not too hard! Now try wrench rocking the crank in both directions.. still no luck? then put more marvel in and wait another week.. Repeat until free. Wax on... Wax off

Ken,

I agree with Kloudi to pull the head, inspect & get rid of the vinegar, this is for salads.

Yea, you have a frozen engine but WHAT was the cause?
If you have a failed head gasket, you may be getting water in your oil and/or piston chambers which will freeze an engine.

Pull your dipstick, if seeing a milky substance at the top, you have water problems.
Breaking the rust is not the fix but a band aid attempt trying to crank it. It's not the cure, but the problem that needs fixing.

Did you just purchase this boat? Or was it ever running when you owned it? The Atomic 4 is very old technology, but is very strong as it is a simple flat head.
I have rebuilt mine and have no problems. Ken at Moyer Marine is a great help. If you have no luck contact him.
Good luck.
