Dear SailboatOwners: i have been experiencing troubles with my atomic 4 engine. any suggestions you may have would be helpful. I can only thank you for building such a beautiful craft. I belong to the Nyack Boat Club and we are mainly river folks but I can tell you she sails better in heavy weather. My boat is named "Mia Amica," my lady friend, and she is. As far as I know she is hull 34 and was built in 1972. I purchased her from Bill Bonardi, who had lived aboard her for ten years in the Bahamas. We have a Tartan 27' with the original engine in it from 1967 and have dealt with a few issues that have come up. The linked website below is a decent resource for the A4 but do not forget to check out Moyer Marine's website too: http://www.moyermarine.com/ they have helped me a lot in the past and carry most spare parts and upgrade kits for the A4. You did not specify what kind of problems you are experiencing so I can only offer to help you diagnose and hopefully fix your problem(s).

Flat Head - Sat Dead
...until I changed the head gasket, blew again, found out an A-4 takes TWO HEAD GASKETS, blew again... Found out the exhaust hose was old and collapsing, so the third head gasket on that flat headed Atomic Four worked! Another common culprit is the exhaust elbow getting corroded, scrape and boil it out. Keep clean oil (change often) and new plugs. There are many, many A-4's out there that are running fine after thirty + years service on RAW WATER! It is a relatively easy engine to work on, but requires patience and extra preventive maintence than others. They were built to run at high revs, keep em high, less troubles.
