I have a '79 Catalina 27 with an Atomic 4 gas engine. Recently I noticed no water was coming from the transom when running the engine. Temp guage shows no overheating, approx 170 degrees. Engine visibly ok. Water pump impeller ok, thermostat ok, all lines intact. What am I missing? DB

Hoses look OK outside. How about inside? Heat exchanger condition? Impeller looks good? Looks can be deceiving - replace it. Intake thru hull open? (Yeah, I know, but sometimes the obvious...) Raw water intake strainer taken off and cleaned? Good luck, Stu

Take off the strainer and open the seacock,

should be a nice flow of water, I've had that section of hose & the strainer clog multiple times over a very short distance when there's a lot of debris like small pieces of kelp in the water, especially after storms.

Had similar problem last week

I had no flow out the back. First thought was clogging of the through hull. I disconnected the hose at the pump intake. Held it above the water line, opened the through hull and blew back through the hose. No problem, could hear air bubbles in water under boat. Closed through hull and pulled off the hose where it goes into the exhaust. Blew back through the engine and no go. Disconnected the short hose that feeds into the exhaust manifold from the thermostat cover. Blew through disconnected hose at exhaust again. Still no go. I now isolated the clog to the exhaust manifold. I pulled off the hose at the back of the exhaust manifold and inserted a screw driver in the hose fitting. Was able to push the screw driver through the clog at the manifold out let. I used the screw driver to clean out the inside of the hose fitting. Must have been crud build up. I connected up the exhuast manifold hoses and blew back through the hose outlet to the exhuast. Was good to go, I had flow back though the manifold and engine. Connected everything back up. Started the engine and water was now flowing. I hope this troubleshooting I did helps you out.
