I'm thinking of sailing my 36 CC to the BVI. Has anyone heard of someone else sailing a 36 CC across the atlantic, or further?

There was a post several years ago

about a Beneteau 361 that had crossed the Atlantic to St Lucia. This site had a guy living on his Beneteau down in St Lucia that was the resident expert. I can't remember his name but he had mentioned it one time. It caught my eye since I have a 361. I know that is not a lot of help but a 36' Beneteau has crossed the Altantic. Also Lisa Copeland has written several books about her and her family doing a circumnavigation in their 38" Beneteau

All the time

Many, many Beneteaus cross the oceans on their own keels. A lot of them from France to the islands. However, many of those crossings are done by slightly odd professionals that get a kick out of jumping on a new or old boat they don't know and shoving off on the big water. I would do it, but only after getting to know the boat well, and preparing thoroughly.

Call St Barts Yachts

Spud : St Barts Yachts (a Beneteau Dealer) has a program to run new Beneteau's for the charter fleets from the east coast to the BVI. If you contact them, they'll most likely be pleased to have you go on such a trip as they are always looking for willing crew. This would also be a good way for you to do the trip & learn without endagering your own boat or your marriage !!! Fair Winds, Paul Ouellette, www.winpipe.ca
