Home...

...I had to quit looking during the day. I work for myself; so no work, no money.

I too am at home only because my district

contracted with Abbott to monitor our computer usage. I got the heads up that it was coming early and started to only use my puter at work for business purposes before the announcement. After a month of secretly monitoring us 40,000 employees they announced the results. They found people online using Ebay 6 hrs/day among other unauthorized uses. Fortunately there was no mention of Sailboatowners.com. I now use my Treo to visit SBO during the day. That is why my post during the day have all kinds of typos. I am all thumbs when it comes to texting. There is no spell check on my phone as well. In checking this post there were 6 typos. Incidently I am no longer behind at work, amazing how that works. Big brother was suppose to arrive in 1984 but it is now here for sure. Frank

Let's complicate the question...

Who works for someone and who works for themselves? I am self employed and I work. I can't imagine having employees stealing time from me.... Sorry if this offends you but it is stealing time. Something to think about... r.w.landau

Appleman, I am sure that conditions control your availability...

Hope you don't have too much h2o this year, and that the frost and wind have been kind to your harvest! My son-in-law is a cherry farmer. Hope you have a great harvest! r.w.landau

At home .

Usually late evening, after work or sailing. NEVER from work. To much actual work to do...and "big brother" is watching anyway.

I work on the flat rate,

if there is work I am working,if business is slow I check in. Every tech in the shop has his own computer, there is a basic filter on the network, not really good for anything but a reminder, but I haven't seen any abuse in the shop, the internet is just another tool and we are there to make money, managers on the other hand... *pop

sometimes

usually from home One thing about working full time - it eats up a very large chunk of my/anyones day, every weekday. So if I want to get a quote on having some work done on my trailer, call the doctor, etc. there are many things that can only be done during buisness hours, (posting on a message board not so much).

I have..

I have never used my corporate computer to personally use the internet! That is something we were warned against as a corporate policy violation. I work remotely from my home office and spend most of my time on the road meeting with clients. I'm paid a 40 hour salary + bonuses yet usually work anywhere between 50-60+ hours per week... enough said. So, no, I don't feel guilty about checking in during the day, while waiting for meetings or appointments, as I still get my job done and exceed the expectations of my company..

Thanks R.W. There have been some days this year

That all I con say is Quack quack. Timely veggie installation has been a problem with all the mud. But..... I have been very lucky to have avoided (so far)some very nasty hail that has come very close.

Checking into this one at home ...

only because it is Saturday ;). Dave's response made me laugh and so did Phil's. I often arrive at the office, check on e-mail to make sure there are no fires, review my calendar, and then participate in Phil's bump at around 9:00 eastern. I work for a major corporation and I am sure that they monitor internet use. We also have a filter that limits what we can view, and I sometimes get the "access denied" message. For instance, I can't view anything on "you tube". Like most places, there is a limited tolerance for using the internet for personal use, as there is a tolerance for a wide variety of personal activities. I've yet to hear any complaints directed corporate wide, or to any specific individuals about internet use in our office. I'll often write some posts just before leaving the office for the day, and then I'll get an earfull from my wife about being on the website rather than on my way home. *grr Part of the reason for that is that by the end of the day, I'm not that anxious to get in the car to sit in traffic, which can often be bad up to about 7:00, so getting on the website can be a form of procrastination (which is also something that drives my wife crazy - she is an Aries).
