I'm thinking seriously of buying an asymmetrical spinnaker for my 192. But I'm not sure how to set it up on the fractional rig and, consequently, don't know how long the luff should be. Where is the correct place to mount the turning block for spinnaker halyard on a 7/8 fractional rig with a backstay? At the hounds, where the shrouds attach? Up at the top where the backstary supports the mast? Or somewhere in between? Does anyone have a 192 already rigged for a spinnaker? What about a 222? Thanks, Dave

I can't answer for a 192 but I have a 20 footer with a similar setup, backstay, but in this case masthead set jib. If you can set up a halyard and block above the 7/8 jib block yet under the forestay that would be a good set up for you. Try to get it as high as possible to the masthead, under the forestay. If you are able to do this you will have the added advantage of being able to gybe the asym inside the foretriangle, and may not even have to go forward to do it. In some cases the chute top block is setup above the forestay, and therefore must be gybed ahead of the forestay, like a spinnaker, making it more difficult. You want the pull at the top as near as possible to the opposing pull of the backstay.
