I have a Hunter 33 and use gennaker as set up in Ken diagram above. I have a problem in light wind that the main takes the wind away from the gennaker so I am now thinking of some form of bow sprit to get the sail further fore. I do not like the one proposed by Seldan as it condems the anchor well. I sail alone a lot and love the ease of using a sock.
Asym's are not meant for sailing DDW. As the breeze gets lighter the boat needs to head up more to maintain good apparent wind speed and angle.
Using a retractable sprit is a big advantage over the anchor roller. I built mine to allow a 5.5 foot extension and still allow use of the anchor locker when the sprit was retracted.

did the bow pulpit with the step, come standard or did you add? have a H326 and would love to have similar set up for when we dock bow in...kids and my folks have tough time climbing over pulpit and invariably use furled Gen as handle!...have looked to find your set up to no avail - any suggestions?

Bow Seat
Alan's bow seat looks real good but maybe made stock I think,you could always have one custom made I am sure.
I did the Hunter factory tour and saw a Hunter 36 just like mine with the nice bow seat just like alan's so I am guessing Hunter did make them as an option.

Alan: I know Asym's are not meant for direct downwind and usually sail about 120. I am very interested in your sprit. Is that a wheel on the inside end of it? What halyard do you use to support the top of the extended pipe? The photos did not reproduce well when I clicked on them. It looks like it locks away to port side when not in use. Do you have a block at the end of the sprit to run the foot line back to the cleat on the boat? I would love to see better quality pics etc cud you send to dougros@videotron.ca. Still time to build for this year!!!!!!!

My bow rail/seat assembly was stock for these boats. I'm sure that as Nick says you can make or have one made for your boat. It's a great place to ride with a small sea running. The only thing under you is the anchor roller to use as a foot rest. It's almost like riding a roller coaster
I've more than once heard a young lady screaming from that location as the bow plunges through a wave!
Roan, The outboard end of the sprit is completely unsupported, there is no 'halyard' needed to support the sprit. I designed it to withstand a 2500lb lifting force and the turning block at the end has a breaking strength of 1500lbs so that it would fail before the sprit. I'll try sending you some pictures. If I can be of any help, don't hesitate to contact me.

Asymmetric Spinnaker
I run a downhaul line under the pin on my bow roller. The line runs up to a ATN Tacker on the furled Jib. This allows for the tack of the spinnaker to be out in front of the forstay and be adjusted depending on my angle to the wind. This allows me to sail at a much lower angle and keep the spinnaker full.

Hi sorry to bother you but i have a question for you, i intend to buy the same boat that you have, a hunter 31 2007, i saw that this model of boat has no pataras ( hope you spell it like this in english) the metal wire from the back of the boat to the mast..... is it good? can you go backwind very well with this? how does the mast hold properly with a high backwind? please explain to me im lost...thanks

Superweeds, the reason the Hunter B&R rig doesn't need a backstay (pataras) is the heavily swept back spreaders and shrouds assume the load that the backstay would carry. There is no problem with downwind sailing and this rig except the main will lay against the spreaders far sooner than a more traditional rig. To help resolve this issue a powerful vang will help control this.
